The District’s rain barrel program promotes local green infrastructure to capture rainwater from roofs and save it for later use, such as watering gardens and flowers. Currently, the District sells rain barrels via the District’s website at the same price the District pays for the rain barrels. During different times, the District has subsidized the cost of rain barrels. After discussions with the Board of Commissioners, and in order to promote the use of rain barrels, we request authority to subsidize half of the cost of rain barrels for all Cook County homeowners and 75% of the cost of the rain barrels for Cook County homeowners over the age of sixty-five. A maximum of two rain barrels would be sold per homeowner’s address.
